Red Dragon Fans, Friends, and Alumni
Week 3 was a quick bus ride up on the hill to face the 2-0 GW Patriots. The school was recognizing and inducting former players into their Hall of Fame. It was a pleasure for me to see several friends of mine who were former Mountaineers. One in particular was my former teammate and roommate for three years, David DeJarnette. Big John Ray and Keith Graley were also inducted, all of whom who had stellar careers at WVU.
I challenged our team to get better this week. I think we did that. We wanted them to fight the fight and I feel we physically won that fight. We didn’t turn the ball over and had only three penalties. In the statistical battle we controlled the ball for thirty-three minutes to their fourteen, and ran 64 plays to their 35. How you may ask was the score so lopsided? BIG PLAYS! Their first three TD’s were long plays; a 67 and 61 yard pass and a 63 yard run.
We won the battle but lost the war. We must continue to persevere and play as a team to reach our goal. We are getting some new players this week because of the change of the transfer policy of the county. I hope it will give us a spark for the “Battle of the Bridge”. See you Friday night at Crawford.
